Sometimes a Green Card application is denied. Even if you meet all the application requirements, your application may be denied.

But, what are the reasons?

Below you can read some of the reasons why you may be considered inadmissible for obtaining the Residency Card. It is essential to know whether you can obtain it before initiating any proceedings.

Causes the Green Card is denied on inadmissibility grounds

  • Suffering from a contagious disease or lacking certain vaccines.
  • Suffering from mental or physical diseases that may result in harm to yourself or others.
  • Suffering from alcohol abuse.
  • Doing drugs or having been sentenced for violating a law in relation to controlled substances, both in the United States or in any other country.
  • Being a drug dealer or participating in this type of crime in any way.
  • Being the spouse of a drug dealer or having received money from them in the last five years.
  • Having been sentenced for a crime against morality or for an aggravated felony.
  • Having committed two or more crimes with a sentence of five years or more.
  • Pretending to have immunity against prosecution in the United States for a crime in order to get out of the country.
  • Having engaged in activities that compromise the security of the United States.
  • Being a public or economic burden to the United States.
  • Having carried out spying operations against the government of the United States.
  • Being a member of a totalitarian, communist or Nazi political party.
  • Having conspired or having participated in a human trafficking crime.
  • Having participated in a genocide.
  • Participating in money laundering or trying to be in the United States to participate in this activity.
  • Being in the United States after having illegally crossed the border.
  • Not showing at Court after having been summoned for a deportation proceeding.
  • Having used a false I.D.
  • Having violated the terms of a Non-Immigrant Visa.
  • To be an illegal alien in the United States – or having been one in the past.
  • Committing an immigration violation and continuing to live in the United States.
  • Having previously renounced to the citizenship in order to avoid paying taxes.
  • Having helped undocumented citizens to illegally enter into the United States.
