USCIS has approved my visa, so what do I do now?
Step 1: Schedule an appointment at the US Consulate. You will need your O1 Visa approval notice on form I-797A and you will be required to pay an application fee (currently $150.00 for O1 visas). After the appointment is made and the fee is paid you will be able to download the appointment confirmation letter and fee receipt.
Step 2: Fill out Form DS-160 online. To complete your online visa application, you need a digital photo and specific biographical information.
Step 3: Attend the Visa interview. The day of the interview you will need to take:
Confirmation page of the DS-160;
The Nonimmigrant Visa Interview Confirmation letter;
A print out of the receipt for the MRV application fee which is sent together with the Nonimmigrant Interview Confirmation Letter;
A passport or other travel document valid for at least 6 months beyond the holder’s period of stay in the United States with at least one blank page – the six-month requirement does not apply to United Kingdom passports;
A photograph, if you have been unsuccessful in uploading one to the DS-160. If your upload was successful, but the photograph does not meet the photo specs, you will be asked to return at a later date with a new photograph;
The original Notice of Action Form I-797A, the O1 Visa USCIS approval notice;
Your fingerprints will be electronically scanned.
Step 4: The Visa will either be approved on the spot or the consulate will take sometime to review the application. The consulate usually takes about 5 days to process a typical visa. All visas passports will be returned to the applicant by courier.
Step 5: Hopefully your visa has been approved/issued and you are able to make plans to travel to the US and enter utilizing your new O1 visa.
*Please note that each consulate is different and you will need to visit the webpage for the particular consulate you are attended for a complete list of what is required.
